Patarei Vangla
Tallinn's Abandoned Prison

I had been trying to visit Estonia for many years after hearing endless stories from my good friend Tanniel about how beautiful it is, back in June I finally got the chance to head over for a week and hang out with him at his family home in Tallinn, Estonia's capital city.In true Tanniel style one the spots he wanted to take me too was a former Russian imperial army fortress that was built in 1920 and then repurposed as a prison in 1929. The prison was officially closed in 2002 and deemed a museum.
You are free to wander around almost the entire complex with no supervision from staff members at all. The only staff member I saw as the adorable old lady at the gate that was handing out flash lights after you got your ticket.Coming from the UK and knowing how protective governments get about heritage buildings it was refreshing to wander around where ever we wanted. Some of the floors where incredible sketchy and I watched several pieces of wall just fall off. You could basically do what ever you pleased in terms of exploring and poking around.

Prison Chairs
I was absolutely fascinated by the various chairs dotted all over the prison. There were so many different styles and different levels of decay that each one was a character.

The infirmary was a real head trip. So many medicine jars, test tubes and apparatus you could just pick up and play around with.
One of the most impressive thing's about the whole visit was the fact it only cost €2 to get in.
