One of the first creatives I linked up with in Atlanta was Travis Ekmark of Office of Brothers (thanks James Nord). Brothers is a local design shop that has seemingly designed every single thing I liked in the city before I even I knew who was behind it. They are a small group wonderfully weird, fun and talented people that I'm happy I've got to know a lot better over the past few months.
I was stoked to tag along to Iowa City to help shoot a restaurant the results of a project they had just finished up call St. Burch Tavern. A a bear themed collaboration with Smith Hanes and a founded by Nate Kaeding, former NFL star.
Brothers recently got a write up in Bon Appétit titled "Meet the Designers Behind All the Coolest Restaurant Stuff", you should read it here. First up, a ramble around the city.
Fun fact: The Iowa Hawks use Exposure and also contribute designs to Tailgate, an incredibly well designed Iowa and Hawks merch store in the city. Lovely space and also part of the Nate Kaeding empire of Iowa City businesses. Check them out of Instagram @TailgateIowa.
And finally the reason we came . To see the result of tons of hard work from everyone involved. Iowa City's own St. Burch Tavern.
Interior design by Smith Hanes and brand, signage and meny design by the great Office of Brothers.
Learn more and maybe even make a reservation at their website: www.saintburchtavern.com.
"We dedicate this establishment to the indomitable spirit of Burch the Bear, Iowa's original mascot, who left his Idaho home to attract the favors of the God of Chance to his beloved State University of Iowa. May he rest in peace and forever watch over us all."
For more on who Burch was, check out this post.
Downstairs at St. Burch Tavern is The Den. A cranky, red lit basement to enjoy drinks or dinner. Being a huge fan of giant neons it was safe to say I enjoyed it.
Apparently we could not leave without dicking around in a corn field, so here we are. Thanks for the good time Iowa.
